Winegrowing has been practised at the Pfannenstielhof for centuries. The farm was first mentioned in a document in 1561. In addition to livestock farming and fruit growing, the farm at that time even had its own wine press (“Torggl”). The “Torggl” stone stands in the garden today and reminds us every day of our eventful history.
The Pfannenstielhof has been owned by the Pfeifer family since 1816 and has been passed down – through seven generations! Veronika is carrying the family tradition on into the eighth generation. Her connection to the land and love of farming also seems to be hereditary!
Pfannenstielhof was first mentioned in historical records in 1561 as residential house No. 219 with a courtyard and farm buildings. The owner was Hanns Phannenstill.
On November 25, 1816, Joseph Pfeifer purchased Pfannenstielhof. Since then, it has been owned by the Pfeifer family and is therefore considered a ancestral estate. Veronika represents the eighth generation.
The first bottles were filled from the 1970 vintage. A 7/10 bottle of St. Magdalener cost 500 lire, and the following year 700 lire.
Johannes took over the estate. He renovated the cellar and vinified the Lagrein Riserva for the first time.
The St. Magdalener CLASSICO 2009 from Pfannenstielhof was the first Vernatsch wine to be awarded the prestigious “Three Glasses” by the Gambero Rosso wine guide.
For his lifetime achievements, Johannes Pfeifer received the highest distinction, the "Tastevin," from the Italian Sommelier Association (AIS).
After studying oenology and gaining valuable experience in wineries at home and abroad, Veronika joined the family business.
