St. Magdalener annver

multi-faceted | balanced | refined

ANNVER is our next-levelSt. Magdalener. Johannes has been behind the Vernatsch grape variety and St. Magdalener all along. While for decades St. Magdalener was considered “simple”, Johannes wanted to know what it was really capable of. He perfected his work in the vineyard and cellar and this has more than paid of as today we see that our St. Magdalener, even after many years in the bottle, offers a fantastic experience.

Johannes produced ANNVER for the first time in 2017, from 95 per cent Vernatsch and 5 per cent Lagrein grapes. He named this mature St. Magdalener after his daughters Anna and Veronika. As ANNVER is only sold after 18 months maturation in steel and a further six months in the bottle, it is de facto a riserva. We are proud that the first edition in 2019 won the special “Tastevin” award from the Italian Sommelier Association (AIS).

ANNVER is a full-bodied, well-balanced wine with an impressive fruity palate and a soft and outstandingly long finish.

We enjoy the wine slightly chilled with starters or as an aperitif to accompany conversation. ANNVER goes very well with Alpine as well as Mediterranean dishes. Veronika prefers to drink it after three years of ageing in the bottle.

ANNVER shines ruby red in the glass and has an enticing, fruity and delicately spicy nose of cherry, violets and a hint of nutmeg and cinnamon. On the palate ANNVER reveals its inimitable elegance. Finely honed notes of bitter chocolate and ripe red fruits accompany the tannins present and its distinctive structure, giving ANNVER its smooth and mellow character.

“Despite its ageing, ANNVER is light and youthful on the palate. Without this, a St. Magdalener is not a St. Magdalener!”
Johannes
"ANNVER is of a quality that would not have been expected from the Vernatsch grape ten years ago."
